After the collapse of Clive Palmer’s business affairs in Australia the businessman is reported to be looking at selling around $AUD150million worth of major property assets.
His own house is already on the market & rumours are rife that the 30 hectare former Club Med site which he bought in 2012 after forming a close ‘golfing relationship’ with the then President of French Polynesia, Oscar Temaru, may be the next on the market. At the time of purchasing the property Palmer remarked that he was purchasing the property for: “relaxation, serenity & because no-one else was going to buy it!”
The resort included 150 rooms, a 200 seat theatre, 46 staff units & 4 executive villas but was extensively ‘stripped’ shortly after Palmer’s purchase. Amongst others who stayed at the Resort whilst it operated as Club Med are Ringo Starr, Cameron Diaz, Janet Jackson, Harrison Ford, Patrick Swayze, Meg Ryan, Pierce Brosnan, Drew Barrymore & John Mc Cain.
Clive Palmer has faced numerous legal actions from employees who have sued him for unfair dismissal amongst other things – the most colourful recently being the case of a man who Clive Palmer didn’t know personally but is alleged to have, on seeing him, called him a ‘fat c..t” before dismissing him!
Clive Palmer faces a similar case in French Polynesia where he was condemned before the plaintiff himself decided to appeal!
I for one will be pleased to see the sale. Unfortunately I’ve seen certain locals clamoring for favours, a position, with the then reportedly billionaire, stomping on honest, hard working locals, even family friends, in a greedy & relentless pursuit of the dollar.
