L’Ilot Delices – Bora Bora Patisserie

Four gifted gastronomes have recently presented Bora Bora with a rare treat in opening “L’Ilot Delices” an opening that complements the island’s reputation for beauty & pleasure.

Marc, his wife Carine, Kevin & Baptiste are a team of gifted patissiers & chefs with a range of impressive qualifications gained in France covering the full ambit of Patisserie Chocolaterie & Galcerie, Confiserie, Boulangerie, as well as Cuisinerie. All worked for many years in some of the world’s most up-market 5 Star Resort Restaurants before deciding to team-up & open a business together – & what a business it is!

With the qualifications & work experience behind them the approach is simple: produce nothing but the best! Fresh local products including naturally grown fruits & vegetables are sourced; fish bought daily from Bora Bora’s fishermen. Where produce needs to be imported it’s ‘top-shelf’ only – chocolate from Valrhona or cocoa from Berry, for example. The end result is patisserie & sushi of rare quality.

Marc & Carine are devoted to the patisserie side of the business. Begin your discovery of the delights of “L’Ilot Delices” savouring a macaron, a colourful gastronomic delight simply bursting with flavour. The exotic tastes vary from season to season reflecting a wide range of delectable traditional & tropical tastes. The macaron is often the reference by which a patisserie can be judged …… although its recipe may be simple, the dedication, the precision & the finesse required to produce a good macaron involves a deep understanding of both mystery & magic! These macarons are packed with magic!

There’s a wide range of other, ever changing pastry delights to choose from, including a delightful millefeuille & the speciality of the house – an out of the world ‘croustillant au chocolat’. You have not had chocolate until you try the ‘croustillant au chocolat’ made from Valrhona chocolate!

The pastry is complimented by similarly sensational sushi – the loved domain of Kevin & Baptiste. Kevin was the Chef of Sushi at arguably Bora Bora’s best hotel & trained under the renowned Japanese Itamae (sushi chef) Yassou. Friendly creations daily from the freshest ingredients. I simply can not stress just how good the sushi is at “L’Ilot Delices”!

There’s even more on offer with excellent salads & truly delectable quiche:

The offer changes daily presenting a kaleidoscope of colour that pleases the eye & an unparalled temptation for the taste-buds!

This level of pastry & of sushi is an art-form, an amazing array of bite-sized delights, exquisitely presented to heighten the gourmet experience. But more than this, the experience proclaims how chefs, given the power to express their love of the art of patisserie or sushi, can make their clients thrill to the sensations of fine gastronomy.

You will find “L’Ilot Delices” tucked away in a corner of the Helen’s Bay commercial centre just waiting to be discovered – it’s right next door to St James Restaurant. There’s a small table & chairs outside the patisserie but no table service, nor drinks or coffee …….. settle in though – you will not want to leave!

UPDATE – This most excellent of establishments which closed towards the end of this month, April 2017, is a great loss to Bora Bora. It is rare that the island finds itself with an operation of this caliber; every effort should be made to promote & retain outlets of this quality. A blow to the discerning tourist.
