Renewal of Vows

What better way to celebrate your life-long love than in Renewing your Vows on Bora Bora, this paradise on earth, in a most moving ceremony incorporating the traditional celebration of this special event

The Renewal of Vows is a romantic & emotional ceremony, celebrated within a traditional Tahitian context involving the 3 essential elements – auti (the sacred plant), water (for purity & cleansing) & tiare Tahiti (the Tahitian symbol of love & of sharing).

The proposed sites & ceremonial structures for this celebration of your love & commitment to each other follow the traditional Tahitian lines as follows:

“Matira Beach” – the ‘Easy-Going’ Renewal of Vows

Matira Beach, one of the world’s most famous beaches & regularly voted amongst the world’s most beautiful beaches, is a beautiful stretch of white sand backed by stunning turquoise waters of every hue as far as the eye can see. The site offers a sense of constancy together with beauty & romance & presents the opportunity for an affordable ceremony whilst not detracting from the quality of what is being undertaken. The beach exudes love & lends itself to those most special moments in one’s life such as Renewing one’s Wedding Vows..

Your Renewing Wedding Vows on Matira Beach includes:

  • Meeting you, where possible, prior to the wedding day after your arrival in Bora Bora to take you through matters, explaining what lies ahead & answering any questions you may have.
  • Your fa’aito (Artistic Director) greeting you at Matira Beach on your special day & escorting you to your ceremony to the sound of the ‘pu’ (conch shell) to indicate that an important ceremony is to take place.
  • Your ceremonial area will be set at water’s edge so as to capture the stunning beauty of the lagoon & take the shape of a large heart fashioned from coconut fronds & filled with a carpet of flowers.
  • Upon your arrival at the ceremonial area you will be welcomed in song by the tahua (Tahitian celebrant) & his assistants – at least 1-2 musicians & 2-3 dancers.
  • Your Ceremony will be performed in both Tahitian & English.
  • You will each be presented with floral leis & crowns – flowers symbolising love, harmony & sharing – & whose exchange signifies the welcoming of one another into each other’s families.
  • To signify your ‘oneness’ you will be wrapped briefly at one stage in a tifaifai (Tahitian quilt).
  • You will each be given a special Tahitian Names by the tahua to mark the ceremony.
  • You will be presented with a special nacre to mark the occasion.

At the conclusion of the ceremony there will be time for a celebratory drink, a special photo-shoot & so on. (Readers should note that since April 2016 the drinking of alcohol in a public place – including Matira Beach – is prohibited. This by it’s very nature sees the opportunity to celebrate somewhat restricted (as does the fact that the beach is a public space). Restaurants/Bars, however, are readily available for those wishing to avail themselves of this idealic setting).

Matira Beach is protected from the southerly winds (maraamu) that often blow in high season, offers good shelter in the event of inclement weather, appropriate sanitary facilities, & is close to a range of quality restaurants should you wish to celebrate after your ceremony.

Matira Beach is an excellent ‘stand alone’ option for those looking for an intimate Traditional Tahitian Wedding at an affordable price. It lends itself to those staying on the main island or arriving by cruise-liner.

“Motu Piti Aau” – The legendary setting in which to Renew Vows

“The Motu” – unquestionably Bora Bora’s best location & needless to say, our most popular ceremonial venue. An exceptionally generous Mother Nature has blessed this site with a unique & totally stunning combination of beach & lagoon, backed by white sands, swaying palms & the soft sound of the ocean greeting the island’s distant protective coral reef. It is here that you will understand why Bora Bora, renowned for its incomparable beauty the world over, & is regarded as paradise on earth.

“The Motu” – Motu Piti Aa’u by name – encompasses Faroone Point where the ceremonies are conducted. ‘Faroone’ means “bend in the sand”, whilst ‘piti aa’u’ means “twice the sentiment, twice the emotion ……. twice the giving” –  there can be no better place on earth than here to Renew Vows!

If you are looking to seal your commitment to a life-long love in the world’s most stunning & romantic setting, then “The Motu” is for you.

The Renewing of Wedding Vows on the motu includes:
  • Meeting with you after your arrival in Bora Bora & prior to your special day so as to take you through matters, explaining what lies ahead & answering any questions you may have.
  • Picking you up in your private & appropriately decorated boat & accompanying you to the motu across some of the very best waters that Bora Bora can offer.
  • On approaching the motu you will be greeted by the traditional sounds of ukelele & guitar.
  • On arriving at the motu, the ‘pu’ (conch shell) will sound to indicate that an important ceremony is to take place.
  • You will be greeted on the motu by the fa’aito (Artistic Director) who will escort you the short distance along the edge of the lagoon to the ceremonial area.
  • Your ceremony will be conducted at water’s edge so as to capture both the beauty of the lagoon & ‘the presence’ of the mythical Mt Otemanu. The ceremonial area will take the shape of a large heart fashioned from coconut fronds & be filled with a carpet of flowers. An arch in flowers of your chosen colours will complete the setting.

You will then be free to have a celebratory drink, a special photo-shoot or whatever suits you.

This is a private island (motu). You are not just being located on another stretch of your resort; privacy is assured here. The motu is then yours to use during the rest of the day for as long as & how you wish – you will not be moved on so that the next ceremony can commence.

The motu’s beach & ceremonial area is fully protected from the southerly winds (maraamu) that blow throughout the year especially during high season. There are excellent snorkeling opportunities reached straight from the beach whilst timber & thatched-roofed, local architectural styled structures on the island are available to shelter from the elements. There are, of course, appropriate sanitary facilities.

We can attend to all your photographic & video requirements as well as hair & make-up needs.

Catering is covered in the form of a unique & unforgettable experience –  “Lunch – Feet in the Water” where you will find yourself seated at a parasol shaded table in knee-deep water with 360 degree views a million miles from anywhere.

The ceremony lends itself particularly to those staying at the resorts on the outer motus, as well as those staying on the main island.
